In mid-February 2017, The American College of Physicians (ACP) released their Guidelines on Noninvasive Treatments for Acute, Subacute, and Chronic Low Back Pain.

ACP Guidelines on Non-Invasive TreatmentAccording to the study, lower back pain is one of the most common experiences and cause for physician-patient interactions / visits in the United States.

Most Americans have experienced back pain lasting at least 1 day. Lower back pain is associated with direct & indirect costs associated with missed work, reduced productivity and health care.

Acute back pain is defined as lasting less than 4 weeks. Subacute back pain is defined as lasting lasts 4 to 12 weeks, and chronic back pain is defined as lasting more than 12 weeks. Radicular low back pain results in lower extremity pain, paresthesia, and/or weakness and is a result of nerve root impingement.

Recommendations from the Guidelines validate Dr. Scott Naftulin and Specialty Spine Care ‘s philosophy and practice for those experiencing subacute and chronic back pain.

ACP Guidelines on Non-Invasive Treatment The Doctor promotes an active lifestyle and identifies personal mobility as a goal and strategy for all. Whether for recreation, leisure, hobby, daily fitness regime, or work, a balanced and active daily life should be part of your personal “wellness-for-life” frame-of-mind and life style.

However, for those that have exceeded thresholds of tolerance and where cause and remedy for pain remains persistent, Doctor Naftulin reinforces rehabilitation options that are based on a doctor-patient understanding and diagnosis. Diagnosis may be inclusive, but not limited to, physical examination, electrodiagnostic studies, which include nerve conduction studies and electromyography (EMG), discography and diagnostic blocks.

Dr. Naftulin and Specialty Spine Care / NERA clinic specializes in non-invasive and non-pharmacologic interventions. The treatment options available to those with subacute and chronic back pain, as may be commonly prescribed to the patients of Dr Naftulin, are typically inclusive of Recommendations set forth by the ACP Guidelines.

If you have lower back pain where the thresholds of tolerance, and where, cause and remedy for pain remains persistent, please contact Dr. Scott Naftulin and Specialty Spine Care for an examination appointment.
